The role of managers extends beyond professional performance to ensuring the overall wellbeing of their team. They play a crucial role in a workplace domestic abuse response by creating opportunities for colleagues to seek help, raising awareness of the workplace domestic abuse response, and enabling people experiencing domestic abuse to stay in work.
A supportive and domestic abuse-aware manager can have a big positive impact for an employee experiencing domestic abuse. At the same time, it is vital for managers to receive support and guidance in their role, to equip them with both practical tools and a safe space to seek advice.
In this session, we:
- discussed how managers can support colleagues impacted by abuse, and how workplaces can ensure that managers are, in turn, supported
- heard from employers that have implemented robust workplace responses and trained their managers
- heard from victim-survivors with experiences of a positive manager response
