HR Charter

HR professionals standing shoulder to shoulder against domestic abuse

We invite HR professionals to sign the ‘HR Charter against Domestic Abuse’. Whilst EIDA membership is for organisations, the HR Charter is a commitment for individuals developed in collaboration with Working Futures, by and for HR professionals. In signing the HR Charter, HR professionals commit to raise awareness of domestic abuse wherever they work.

Supporting colleagues

Given the statistics, it is sadly the case that colleagues within most organisations will be affected personally by domestic abuse. There is so much that HR professionals can do to take a stand against domestic abuse, and to play an effective role in raising awareness and supporting colleagues.

What are the benefits of signing the HR Charter?

When you sign the HR Charter, you will:

  • Gain access to all the tools, resources, and events available to employers that are members of EIDA.
  • Receive a digital badge for you to add to your email signature and social media accounts.
  • Be invited to a free, online onboarding session with other HR professionals who have signed the HR Charter.
  • Have your name, job title, and current organisation added to the EIDA website displaying the HR professionals who have also signed the HR Charter.
  • Become part of a movement for change.

In signing the HR Charter, you commit to:

  • Encourage your organisation to become a member of the EIDA to benefit from EIDA’s resources and events.
  • Introduce and actively promote a comprehensive domestic abuse policy or written guidance.
  • Create safe spaces within your organisation, both physical and digital, to make it easier for people to seek support.
  • Appoint and train domestic abuse champions, including HR professionals within your organisation.
  • Introduce an on-going communications strategy to promote awareness, break down stigma, and signpost to support.
  • Use EIDA’s wide range of guidance and resources or develop your own collection of materials.
  • Introduce wellbeing conversations into regular performance reviews with a specific call out to domestic abuse.

By raising awareness and creating routes to ask for help, HR professionals can play a key role in helping people subjected to domestic abuse in the workplace. Being a signatory to EIDA’s HR Charter against domestic abuse has given me access to resources to understand how to respond proactively on this important issue, and how to make a business case for employers to get involved.

How was the HR Charter developed?

EIDA partnered with Working Futures (previously CIRCAL), an organisation that plays a leading role in transforming the world of work and HR practices. Together we ran a series of online sessions with hundreds of HR professionals to increase awareness of domestic abuse. It was clear then, as it is today, that there is still so much more that employers could be doing. Who better placed to take the lead on this important work than HR professionals themselves? Through a process of workshops and iterative development, we produced the HR Charter against domestic abuse. We invite all HR professionals to make use of EIDA’s materials, attend our events, and join us in driving change.

We thank every HR Charter signatory for driving change in workplaces
