The Association of British Insurers has published two new guides, developed with leading charities Surviving Economic Abuse (SEA) and the Employers’ Initiative on Domestic Abuse (EIDA), to help insurers better support customers and employees affected by economic and domestic abuse.
Launched yesterday in Parliament, the guides draw on good practice examples to help firms detect and respond to economic and domestic abuse, reduce opportunities for perpetrators, support safe disclosure, and improve outcomes for customers.
The work forms part of the industry’s wider efforts to improve outcomes for vulnerable customers and support the Government’s Financial Inclusion Strategy. It also reflects a shared commitment across the ABI’s membership, over 300 firms, to go beyond regulatory requirements to support customers facing these types of abuse. EIDA welcomes this commitment to raise awareness and take effective action on domestic abuse across the insurance industry.
Susan Bright, CEO of the Employers’ Initiative on Domestic Abuse, says: “We are very pleased to see the leadership role the ABI have taken to develop this guidance and make it available to the wider industry.
“Employers are a crucial part of the whole-of-society response to domestic abuse, and through our work with EIDA’s over 2000 employer members, we see the real difference that a domestic abuse-aware and supportive employers can make. We look forward to working more with employers in the insurance and long-term savings sector as they implement their workplace domestic abuse response.”
