Kelly Lewis

Head of Membership & Engagement

What does your job at EIDA involve?

As Head of Membership & Engagement, I work closely with employers to help them strengthen their response to domestic abuse. My role is about supporting members to access the right tools and guidance, and creating a collaborative community where organisations feel confident, connected, and equipped to make meaningful change. I focus on listening to what employers need, amplifying best practice, and making sure our membership feels supported, valued, and part of a wider movement for safer workplaces.

What inspired you to take up your current role?

After more than three decades working in policing, safeguarding, and supporting people through some of the most difficult moments of their lives, EIDA’s mission resonated deeply with me. I’ve seen first-hand how domestic abuse affects people’s confidence, wellbeing, and ability to thrive at work — and how the right support can change everything. EIDA’s values of collaboration, empowerment, openness, versatility, and kindness align closely with my own, so joining felt less like a career move and more like a natural continuation of the work I care so deeply about.

Why do you think it is important that employers tackle domestic abuse?

Because work can be a lifeline. For many people experiencing domestic abuse, the workplace may be the only safe, stable part of their day. Employers are uniquely placed to notice changes, offer support, and create environments where people feel able to speak up. When organisations take domestic abuse seriously, they not only protect their staff — they help break stigma, strengthen wellbeing, and contribute to wider societal change. Tackling domestic abuse isn’t just a moral responsibility; it’s a practical, human one.

What did you do before you joined EIDA?

Before joining EIDA, I spent 31 years in policing, working across investigative, safeguarding, and senior leadership roles. My career included major crime, vulnerability, domestic abuse, harmful practices, training, and supporting teams through complex and sensitive cases. I’ve always been driven by protecting people, building trust, and helping others grow — whether victims, colleagues, or new investigators finding their confidence.

What do you enjoy doing when you’re not working?

Outside of work, I love travelling, exploring history and culture and spending time in my garden. I’m happiest with good food, sunshine, and a view of the sea. I also enjoy yoga, forest bathing, long walks, a good book and time with my family,  who keep me grounded, laughing, and reminded of what matters most. I am also a huge country music fan – and looking to start line dancing soon.
