The Department for Work and Pensions becomes an EIDA Beacon

The Employers’ Initiative on Domestic Abuse (EIDA) are delighted to welcome the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) as our newest Beacon Member. DWP joins the Home Office and Ministry of Justice in EIDA’s Beacon Programme, recognising its commitment to tackling domestic abuse, supporting employees, and helping drive positive change across the wider employer community.

DWP employs over 90,000 people, many in community-facing roles supporting people affected by domestic abuse. The Department also plays a key role in delivering the Government’s Violence Against Women and Girls Strategy, helping to raise awareness among employers and across society, and support victim-survivors to remain in or return to work.

“We are very pleased to welcome the Department for Work and Pensions as EIDA’s newest Beacon member. The DWP is a longstanding supporter of EIDA’s work and an essential ally in the whole-of-society response to domestic abuse. We are delighted to join forces with them as they implement their workplace response to domestic abuse and encourage the many employers in their network to do the same.”

– Susan Bright, CEO of EIDA.

“Becoming an EIDA Beacon member is an important step in DWP’s longstanding commitment in standing against domestic abuse. As one of the UK’s largest employers, we have a responsibility to lead by example and to create a workplace where colleagues feel safe, valued, and confident seeking help – and where they can access understanding, compassion, and practical support when they need it.

This membership recognises the progress we have made in strengthening our workplace response to domestic abuse. It also gives us the opportunity to build on that work, learn from other leading employers, and share best practice across the Beacon community.

We are proud to join EIDA and our fellow Beacon members as we continue to raise awareness, improve the support available in the workplace, and help drive lasting meaningful change.”

– Sarah Healey, Permanent Secretary, Department for Work and Pensions

EIDA’s Beacon members are our most prominent advocates. They are leading culture change among UK employers by influencing and inspiring workplaces to make a difference to the lives of employees impacted by domestic abuse. Beacon members work closely with EIDA and our wider membership of over 2,000 employers to respond to domestic abuse within their organisations, help to raise standards among UK workplaces, and inspire other employers to take effective action.
