Why We’re Taking Action on Domestic Abuse
At Atos, we understand that the effects of domestic abuse don’t stop at the front door. Survivors often carry the weight of their experiences into every corner of their lives, including the workplace. This can show up as anxiety, low self-esteem, relationship difficulties, and challenges in performing or feeling safe at work.
We believe that every individual deserves a workplace where they are not only employed, but empowered, a place where they are safe, supported, and heard. That’s why we are committed to ensuring our organisation is a space of refuge, not silence.
We want our workplace to be one where anyone experiencing abuse is met with compassion, not stigma, and where colleagues know how to respond, not retreat. By taking action, we aim to break the cycle of abuse and ensure that no one feels they have to navigate it alone.
How EIDA Membership Has Helped
Joining the Employers’ Initiative on Domestic Abuse (EIDA) has been a turning point in our efforts to support colleagues affected by domestic abuse. Through EIDA, we became part of a powerful network of organisations united by a shared commitment to change.
EIDA’s resources, guidance, and events have been instrumental in shaping our internal response. We’ve accessed best practices for further policy development, gained practical tools to raise awareness, and learned directly from survivor voices and sector experts.
Most importantly, EIDA has helped us foster a workplace culture rooted in empathy, understanding, and proactive support, where conversations about abuse are no longer taboo, but necessary and encouraged.
The Impact So Far
One of our proudest achievements has been the launch of our Safe Haven community. A dedicated space for colleagues affected by domestic abuse and violence against women and girls.
Safe Haven has become more than a support group. For some, it is the first place where they have felt safe enough to share their story. For others, it’s a space to learn how to be a better ally, friend, or supporter.
Since its inception, Safe Haven has driven measurable change across our organisation:
- Increased awareness of domestic abuse and its signs.
- Empowered allyship among staff who now feel more equipped to help.
- Open dialogue that has helped reduce stigma and foster trust.
The community is becoming a catalyst for cultural transformation; shifting the way we talk about abuse, support one another, and respond as a collective. This is more than a workplace initiative. It’s a movement, and we’re proud to be part of it.
Looking Ahead
We know this is an ongoing journey, but with the continued support of EIDA and the strength of our internal community, we are building a safer, more compassionate workplace. One where everyone has the courage to speak, and the certainty that they will be heard.
