They established the first survivor network in any UK police force. They harnessed the power of lived experience to create a domestic abuse pledge; implementing a domestic abuse response and changing the workplace culture to create a supportive and trauma-informed workplace for everyone.

In this case study video, Ruth Ford from the Complex Domestic Abuse and Stalking Unit, shares how Sussex Police established an internal support group for employees impacted by domestic abuse and sexual abuse. The group is a place to share experiences, gain practical advice and support, and connect with colleagues. This has created a culture of trust and support, helping victim-survivors to report perpetrators, seek the support they need, and rebuild their lives after abuse.
